Dana Burns Founded Nonprofit – A Permanent Voice to serve South Phoenix

A week ago, Dana Burns was reunited with the child she had raised from infancy.
On Christmas Eve, flush with gratitude and maternal joy, she sought to console a mother who had lost a son to a car accident just two weeks earlier.
Burns wanted to pay forward the blessing of family by helping a family in need.
She and her partner, Jamal Carter, descended on the home of Nydea Richards armed with gifts, groceries and, for good measure, pizza.
It was the first “blessing,” as Burns called it, from the Permanent Voice, a non-profit she and Carter started to support people in trying circumstances.
Richards’ son, 15-year-old Keshawn Hubanks, was struck by a car on Southern Avenue earlier this month as he was walking to his bus stop to go to school. He was the second of Richards’ seven children.
Burns and Carter decided the family would be the first their new non-profit would help, an attempt to brighten a suddenly darkened holiday season.
Judging by the delighted response from the kids, it worked.
