Breast Decision Initiative

In honor of Pathie “Allie” Dunnings (1/25/93-7/22/24), niece of APV founder, who passed away at the age of 31. as a result of Stage IV Breast Cancer. Allie had just given birth to a baby boy, and mistook the malignant lump for a clogged milk duct. With limited resources in South Phoenix, A Permanent Voice aims to educate those in this underserved population.

The “Breast Decision Initiative” is a South Phoenix community-based health education program designed to empower young women (ages 18-35) and nursing mothers to take charge of their breast health through routine self-awareness. Recognizing that breast density and hormonal changes can make self-examination challenging, this program provides targeted training on identifying normal tissue, identifying “new or unusual” changes, and specifically educating lactating mothers on distinguishing between benign, temporary conditions (clogged ducts/mastitis) and potentially malignant lumps.

Serve Our Seniors

Our Serve Our Seniors program was inspired by the overwhelming needs of seniors living in South Phoenix who continue to struggle with substandard housing, increasing rents, transportation challenges, and lack of resources – especially for those who are taking care of grandchildren. A Permanent Voice is committed to ensure that these families are heard and supported.

Shoot Your Shot Literacy & Life Skills Program

The Shoot Your Shot Literacy & Life Skills Program’s goal is to strengthen students’ skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension, while helping them examine and develop in the areas of self-confidence, decision-making, accountability, and purpose.

Our Voices Youth Development Program Youth Basketball

Our Voices Youth Development Program is a youth basketball program that improves motor skills, coordination, flexibility, and endurance. It also encourages speed, agility, and strength. These skills are shown to have a positive effect on promoting a healthy body weight and encouraging more physical activity, which can enhance cardiorespiratory fitness and self-esteem.
